HCMC Whittier Clinic
Minneapolis, MN

Whittier Clinic improved the health of its community in the broadest sense.  The new 60,000 square foot family medicine clinic transformed a contaminated industrial site into a thriving neighborhood asset serving both patients and the broader public.

  • Design contribution

  • Coordinated early concepts and studies with Engineers

  • Produced presentation graphics and information for various client and community meetings

  • Photographed and investegated site context

Patient Room Layout Presentation Tool

The healthcare department had a powerpoint that was used to guide client discussion on prefered patient room configuration.  The powerpoint showcased previous HGA projects, but the inconsistent layout and diagrams distracted clients.  Inconsistent pieces of information complicated the discussion.  Formalizing and streamlining the graphics contributed to the book "Clinic Design: Enhancing the Patient Experience through Informed Design."

Tasks:

  • Designed a consistent graphic representation of elements.

  • Developed a step-by-step instruction sheet to process floor plans into the standardized format.

  • Researched various projects to populate the powerpoint.

Essentia Health St. Mary's
Detroit Lakes, MN

Tasks:

  • Sketchup Modeling

  • Image Creation for presentations

St. Luke's Wood River Medical Center
Ketchum, Idaho

The existing hospital reception and emergency triage areas of St. Luke's lacked visual connectivity as well as distiction to help with wayfinding.  The proposed design made use of form, materials, and colors to improve wayfinding.  Strategic layout and interior window placement allows staff to maintain connection to all spaces.

Tasks:

  • Schematic Design

  • Sketchup Modeling

  • Image Creation for presentations

Built Therapy:
Serenity Health
Master's Design Thesis

The project studied the effects of the built environment on human physical and psychological health.  I examined traditional guiding principals in the built environment such as the golden section and root rectangle proportioning systems, feng shui, and mandala diagrams in relation to their impact on occupant health.  I then applied my research into a conceptual design for a holistic health center for a site in Sioux Falls, SD.
